    The 2019 Session of the Louisiana Legislature adjourned on June 6, 2019, and I want to express appreciation for the leadership of Governor John Bel Edwards and for his work and that of many of our legislators in support of funding for higher education.

    Apparently, the Louisiana Legislature had been counting on the often-heard idiom, "Third time's the charm." In this year's third special session which ended Sunday, the Legislature finally agreed to a solution that allows the state to avert the July 1 fiscal cliff that was rapidly approaching.

    Following a somewhat ignominious June 8 end to the Regular Legislative Session and the associated failure to adopt a State budget, the Louisiana Legislature accomplished the necessary task this past week in a brief special session that ended on June 16, 2017.
