Alumni Awards Criteria

Alumnus of the Year

Award recipients will be accomplished in three distinct areas as outlined below. This distinction will be reflective of Southeastern’s core values – Excellence and Caring:

  • Professional Achievement and Career or Military Service Distinction: The recipient has attained prominence through his or her efforts in commerce, industry, technology, the arts, education, government, military or other worthy endeavors that form a record of accomplishments on an international or national level.
  • Service to Community: The recipient exhibits integrity and a demonstrated commitment to service through an interest in bettering the lives of others through volunteer efforts.
  • Service and Support to Southeastern Louisiana University: The recipient’s deeds and actions reflect the importance of his or her educational training, pride in alma mater and loyalty to Southeastern, as demonstrated through their interest in and support of the University and Alumni programming.

Young Alumnus of the Year

  • Service and Support to Southeastern Louisiana University: The recipient’s deeds and actions reflect the importance of his or her educational training, pride in alma mater and loyalty to Southeastern, as demonstrated through their interest in and support of the University and Alumni programming.

Distinguished Alumnus from each College

  • Service to Community: The recipient exhibits integrity and a demonstrated commitment to service through an interest in bettering the lives of others through volunteer efforts.
  • Service and Support to Southeastern Louisiana University: The recipient’s deeds and actions reflect the importance of his or her educational training, pride in alma mater and loyalty to Southeastern, as demonstrated through their interest in and support of the University and Alumni programming.

Eligible Nominees

Eligible nominees will have graduated in a regular course ofstudy at Southeastern Louisiana University. Voting members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors are not eligible during their term of service. Graduates may be nominated posthumously.

Nominees are requested to attend the Alumni Awards Dinner on October 17, 2025 as well as Homecoming festivities and football game on October 18, 2025.

These awards are given for outstanding achievement and no compromises that diminish the significance of the awards will be made.

Nominations will be accepted using the following guidelines:

  • A completed Nomination Form must be submitted.
  • Nominators are encouraged to provide supporting items that further distinguish the nominee. Such items could include, but are not limited to:
    • Letters ofsupport from non-family members that specifically address the criteria (maximum of two)
    • Current biography or curriculum vitae for the individual
    • Newspaper or magazine articles that showcase the special qualities of the nominee
    • Award or certificates of achievements
    • Other items of interest
  • One nomination per individual will be considered.
  • No limitations will be placed on the total number of nominations accepted for consideration.
  • The name of the nominator will not be disclosed if he or she requests anonymity.

Method of Award Selection

Southeastern Alumni will use the following guidelinesfor the award selection:

  • The Alumni Office will collect submitted nominations, to be reviewed and confirm that applicants meet all qualifications. If application is not complete then application will not be accepted.
  • The Alumni Office will submit the nominations to the Awards Nominating Committee for their review and selection.
  • The Alumni Association Board of Directors must approve slate of all nominees.

Announcement and Recognition

Those chosen to receive awards will be notified in August. The Alumni Office will announce honorees to the public through various methods and will honor each recipient at the annual Alumni Awards Evening in conjunction with Homecoming festivities.
