Accounting and Financial Services Professional Network: Cryptocurrency: Clever or Criminal?

Cryptocurrency is on everyone’s lips — from small-time investors looking to strike
it rich to government officials worried it will destabilize the economy. But despite
all the buzz, many are still unsure what crypto is all about. Who’s behind it? What’s
the difference between blockchain and bitcoin? In this intriguing presentation, Associate
Professor of Accounting & Finance Dr. Louis Le Guyader will cut through the hype and
hyperbole surrounding crypto and explain the most important ideas in everyday language.

This fun and informative lecture will be preceded by an hour of social networking.
All alumni, students and faculty are invited to attend.

About the presenter: Lou Le Guyader, Ph.D., is a professor in Southeastern’s College of Business where
he teaches accounting. He speaks about Cryptocurrencies when teaching the Statement
of Cash Flows as featured in Tesla’s financials and addresses BlockChain in his Accounting
Theory class. Lou “cut his teeth” on cryptocurrencies earlier than most. He was a
senior banker at a French bank involved in creating the synthetic European currency,
the ECU; the ECU existed in electronic form only and was never coined. In 1998 the
ECU became the modern EURO, which is now coined. Dr. Le Guyader came to Southeastern
after careers in International Banking and in accounting at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
An active CPA, he earned his PhD in accounting at Columbia University and his MBA
at UVA where he met his wife, Lee, a native of Hammond.
