2004 Distinguished Alumnus: Stephen Soutullo

 

Described as "a great ambassador for the university," former Assistant Vice President and Dean of Enrollment Management Stephen Soutullo called himself, "the proudest alumnus you will ever meet." A long-time staff member of Southeastern, he  followed the career philosophy that he passed along to students when he received his Alumnus of the Year honors: "Find a place you love to be, find something you love to do, and do it like there's no tomorrow."

Mr. Soutullo earned a bachelor's degree in foreign languages in 1971 and a master's in education in 1988. He taught Spanish and French at Ponchatoula High School before joining the Southeastern staff in 1989. He held positions at Southeastern  in placement, high school relations, and enrollment services. As dean, he oversaw university admissions and coordinated the implementation of the recruitment/marketing and retention/progression plans.

Mr. Soutullo represented the university on the Board of Regents' Council of Enrollment Management Officers. He was also active in the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and the National Orientation Directors Association. He has served on the executive committee of the Louisiana High School Rally Association for more than two decades.

Stephen Soutullo, was a past recipient of the President's Award for Excellence in Service, and  a member of the University Planning and Curriculum councils. Before his retirement from Southeastern, he chaired the Enrollment Management Planning Committee and was the Commencement Committee head marshal effortlessly guiding over 1200 students smoothly through the commencement process each semester.
