2006 Distinguished Alumnus: Stan Beaubouef

 

Mr. Beaubouef received his Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Southeastern in 1977.

After teaching social studies and coaching at Ponchatoula High School and Berwick High School, Mr. Beaubouef became Principal of Berwick Junior High School. From 1981 to 1990 while serving as principal, he was responsible for implementing the first computer curriculum in St. Mary Parish. He also received the Nicholls Reading Council, Principal of the Year Award for leading his school to the recognition of Louisiana Reading Council School of the Year.

In 1990, he accepted the position of Principal of Berwick High School, where he developed and implemented an integrated computer curriculum. He also implemented an 8 period day and interdisciplinary units of Instruction for which he was recognized as the St. Mary Parish Principal of the Year.

In 1995, he became the Technology Director of the St. Mary Parish School Board where he trained over 500 employees in Windows, Power Point, Excel and Word. He designed and implemented a district computer network which was the first parish district in Louisiana to have every classroom connected to the internet. He was also responsible for implementing an automated library system.

In 1998, he became the Director of Personnel and Administration for St. Mary Parish where he organized and completed computerization of the Personnel Office enabling a reduction in staff. It was at this time he was successful in reducing the number of uncertified teachers in the parish by 10%. Recognizing his talents, he worked with the dean at Nicholls State to develop an Alternate Certification Program for teachers, and then with the dean at University of Louisiana Lafayette to develop the Professional Development School there.

In 2004, he became the director of Teacher Certification and Higher Education for the Louisiana Department of Education.
While excelling in all these areas, he also found time to be a councilman for the city of Berwick for 12 years, a past president of the Patterson Rotary Club, a past president of the Berwick Bayou Vista Lions Club and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for Fairview Hospital.
