2007 Distinguished Alumnus: Patrick Settoon

 

Patrick Settoon

Patrick D. Settoon has been part of the Southeastern family since he enrolled as a student in 1953. A native of Amite, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957, then pursued master's and doctoral degrees at Louisiana State University. He returned to Southeastern in 1961 as a chemistry instructor. During a tenure of more than three decades, he served as head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, dean of the College of Science and Technology, and provost and vice president for academic and student affairs. He retired from the university in 1990, but continued as "Scholar in Residence" in the Department of Chemistry and Physics for 11 years.

 

Setton also served as a member of the Southeastern Development Foundation and continues to participate in long term university planning sessions. His many civic contributions include serving as president of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, United Way Fund Drive, Kiwanis Club, Hammond High PTA and Hammond Dixie Youth Baseball. He has also served as a member of the Tangipahoa Parish Tourist and Film Commission, the Economic Development Foundation, and the 2020 Commission. He has served as chairman of the board directors of the North Oaks Rehabilitation Center.
