C. Howard Nichols served as Professor of History  and was selected  Professor of Emeritus at Southeastern for his outstanding contributions.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Southeastern and then went on to receive a Master of History in History from LSU. He was admitted to candidacy for a doctorate in History at LSU.He was also  an A.B.D. Fellow of the Institute of Southern and Negro History of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.

Mr. Nichols is a renowned educator, prolific writer and expert historian.  He has authored authored several books about St. Tammany Parish including Gathered At The River: One Hundred and Fifty Years of Christ Episcopal Church: Covington, Louisiana.

He additionally served on many committees and board of Southeastern including the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Columbia Theatre Board of Directors.  He has been active with the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and served on committees and as a member of the board of directors.

 

He served on the 75th Anniversary committee of Southeastern Louisiana University and was responsible for an historic marker on campus as well as a traveling historical photographic exhibit of the university. He began as a Southeastern student, returned to teach and then retired from Southeastern having served under most of its presidents and consulting others on the historical facts about Southeastern.

 

He is a renowned speaker on Louisiana history and his opinion is highly sought after on many historical facts concerning the north shore region.   He and his wife Sue, also a Southeastern professor, are the parents of two daughters.
