What Math Course Should I Take First?
Southeastern has multiple math pathways for students depending on their career path. To decide which math pathway is appropriate for you, please consult with your academic advisor.
How Am I Placed Into My First Math Course?
Southeastern Louisiana University places students into their first math course based upon their math ACT score or their ALEKS PPL score.
Math Placement via Math ACT Scores
Admitted students who have their official ACT scores entered into Southeastern’s computer system are initially placed into their first mathematics courses as outlined below:
- A student whose math ACT subscore is 18 or below is required to concurrently enroll in one of our corequisite courses, either MATH 1002/1050 or MATH 1001/1070.
- Placement of beginning freshman according to their official math ACT subscore:
MATH 1001: math ACT subscore of 18 or below (must be taken concurrently with MATH 1070). Credit for MATH 1001 does not count toward graduation.
MATH 1002: math ACT subscore of 18 or below (must be taken concurrently with MATH 1050). Credit for MATH 1002 does not count toward graduation.
MATH 1050: math ACT subscore of 19 or higher.
MATH 1070: math ACT subscore of 19 or higher.
MATH 1610: math ACT subscore of 22 or higher.
MATH 1750: math ACT subscore of 25 or higher.
MATH 2000: math ACT subscore of 28 or higher.
