Student Success

The Department of Mathematics provides many opportunities and resources to guarantee each student’s success, including challenging research projects, valuable scholarship opportunities, and more.

Academic Advising

The Department of Mathematics advises all Mathematics and Mathematics Education majors.  We assign every student to a faculty advisor, and students should be sure to meet their advisor in person and get to know them.  Every student must be advised each semester to have their registration hold removed so they can register for classes.  Students who do not know their faculty advisor should stop by the Mathematics Department Office in Fayard 308 or call 985-549-2175.

Student Organizations

Pi Mu Epsilon

Pi Mu Epsilon is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding.  To promote mathematics, the National Pi Mu Epsilon Council sponsors an annual conference in conjunction with the Mathematics Association of America’s (MAA) annual MathFest.  Traditionally, this conference occurs the first weekend of August.  Undergraduate members of Pi Mu Epsilon are encouraged to give a 15 minute presentation on a mathematical topic of interest.  The content of the presentation does not have to include original research.  Although some presentations may impart new results, the majority often show results of exploration of a topic beyond what is traditionally covered in an undergraduate class.  Feel free to contact an officer to verify a topic is suitable for presentation.

Honors Program

The Honors Program at Southeastern Louisiana University is designed to provide participants with an excellent educational opportunity to learn about not only their chosen major, but also to learn the nature of intellectual inquiry and to study the important issues of our time and of all time. Honors students benefit from interaction with a community of peer scholars who are equally interested in achieving the most in their college careers. Additionally, under the direction and mentoring of a faculty member, Honors students culminate their college career with a significant research experience or artistic endeavor during their senior year.
