The SLU Contemporary is pleased to announce Outside, In an exhibition featuring a selection of art works made by Faculty in the Visual Art
+ Design department at Southeastern Louisiana University. Outside, In was curated by Leslie-Claire Spillman, Owner and Director of Spillman-Blackwell Fine
Art in New Orleans whose external perspective uncovered many thematic connections
coursing throughout the Faculty’s individual practices.
Themes related to local landscape, urbanism, and artistic empathy are prevalent throughout
the show. Leslie-Claire Spillman writes: “While seemingly disparate at first glance,
the works in this exhibition are constructed out of a desire to formalize the internal,
to flush out ideas and give a tangible result to that exploration, bringing to the
surface–to the outside, what is within. With artists using so many different approaches
to achieve this, my hope is that viewers find inspiration in the limitlessness of
the possibilities of this expression.”
