in the 21st century.
Mission
The mission of the Department of World Languages and Cultures is to enable students
to utilize their target language and increase their awareness of diverse cultures.
Acquisition of communication skills will facilitate participation in the economy,
development, and culture of southeast Louisiana and beyond.
The department aims to provide:

High-quality instruction

Authentic cultural interaction through short-term and long-term (semester and year-long)
study abroad programs, internships in local companies and service learning opportunities
on- and off-campus -
Linguistic and cultural expertise in support of the university as a whole, local and regional
schools, and the wider community -
A broad range of scholarly work

Phi Sigma Iota honorary society. Students are also active in the Language clubs.
Our students have access to excellent facilities including:

Two all-digital computer labs, the Foreign Language Resource Center and the English Language Learning Lab which enable students to experience second
language learning software applications
