Students earn awards for television and film work

Southeastern boasts an excellent reputation for producing top film and television talent, as evidenced by students continually earning local, regional and national awards as well as securing employment immediately following graduation. Students in Southeastern’s communication program have earned several recent rankings and awards for their broadcast journalism work at the Southeastern Channel, the university’s educational access television station.

  • Emmy Award in the “Directing” category for a short film

  • Honorable Mention recognitions from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Suncoast Region Emmy Awards for six students’ work at the Southeastern Channel

  • First place in the nation from College Broadcasters, Inc. for a student documentary

  • First place in the region in six categories, including news and sports reporting, videography and newscast, from the Society of Professional Journalists

  • “Best of the South” award for college television station, college video newscast, college TV anchor, TV journalist, hard news reporter from the Southeastern Journalism Conference comprised of 33 universities from eight states

  • Student Broadcaster of the Year from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters

  • Student Broadcasting Scholarship from the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters

  • Student Broadcasting Scholarship from the Press Club of New Orleans

  • National Telly Award for a student documentary

  • National Communicator Award for the Florida Parish Chronicles

  • “Gold Remi” award from Worldfest International Film/Video Festival for a student documentary

  • First place Award of Excellence, second place Award of Distinction and Honorable Mention from the national Videographer Awards for student short films, music videos, public service announcements, promotional spots, sportscast and entertainment show
