(1) FOREIGN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL WINNERS (ST. (4) VANDEBILT STUDENT IS FOREIGN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL WINNER (TERREBONNE) -- Vandebilt Catholic High School student Brian Bourgeois was among the students who took first place in the 24th annual Southeastern Louisiana University Foreign Language Festival on April 4. He was the first place winner in the Spanish poetry, third year, category.

THOMAS STUDENT IS FOREIGN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL WINNER (TANGIPAHOA) -- St. Thomas Aquinas student Veronica Wills was among the students who took first place in the 24th annual Southeastern Louisiana University Foreign Language Festival on April 4. She took first place in the Spanish extemporaneous speaking, fourth year, category.

 

      HAMMOND -- The 24rd annual Foreign Language Festival at Southeastern Louisiana University awarded its top honors to Archbishop Chapelle High School and De la Salle High School.

      The festival, held Tuesday, April 4, at the University Center, drew 16 schools from surrounding parishes to participate in Spanish and French poetry, prose, and extemporaneous speaking categories and as groups in music and plays.

      Archbishop Chapelle was the winner in Tier 1, the division for magnet schools and schools with more than 600 students, while De la Salle garnered the highest award for Tier 2, schools with less than 600 students. Archbishop Chapelle also received the highest overall honors in Spanish, while the top honors in French went to Mount Carmel Academy.

      Participating schools also included Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, St. Scholastica Academy, Brother Martin High School, Fontainebleau High School, Ponchatoula High School, Springfield High School, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Immaculata High School, John Ehret High School, Vandebilt Catholic High School, Live Oak High School, Hammond High School, and St. Paul’s School.

      In the Spanish music category, winners were St. Paul's School, first; Vandebilt Catholic High School, second; Mount Carmel Academy, third. The Spanish play winners were Archbishop Chapelle High School, first; St. Scholastica Academy, second; Fontainebleau High School, third.

      In French music, Live Oak High School took first place; Mount Carmel Academy, second, and Springfield High School, third. Live Oak also placed first in French play or drama; St. Scholastica Academy, second; and Brother Martin High School, third.
