(3) WINNING “STAR” STUDENT FROM RAYNE HIGH – STAR Program student Lindsey Duhon of Rayne High School won second place in the poster competition at the “Celebration of Teachers and Teaching Day” hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development.

 

(4) WINNING “STAR” STUDENT FROM SLIDELL HIGH – STAR Program student Courtney Edwards of Slidell High School took second place honors in the “Student of the Year” competition at the “Celebration of Teachers and Teaching Day” hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development.

 

(5) WINNING “STAR” STUDENTS FROM FRANKLINTON HIGH – Toni Tageant of Franklin High School, center, was named STAR Teacher of the Year at the “Celebration of Teachers and Teaching Day” hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development. STAR Program students from Franklinton High students who were among the competition winners were Alanna Miller, left, and Kaity Williams, right.

CHARLES SATELLITE CENTER – STAR Program students from the St. Charles Satellite Center were among the winners in competitions at the “Celebration of Teachers and Teaching Day” hosted by Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development.       HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Education and Human Development recently hosted the second annual “Celebration of Teachers and Teaching Day” for high school students and teachers participating in the STAR (Students Teaching and Reaching) Program.

      The program provides high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to learn about teaching careers through courses offered at their high school.

      Toni Tageant of Franklinton High School was named STAR Teacher of the Year, with second place honors going to Jeanette Shelton of the Caddo Career and Technology Center in Shreveport.

      STAR Student of the Year honors were awarded to Kadee LaPorte of St. Amant High School, first; Courtney Edwards of Slidell High School, second; and Christina Clark of Caddo Career and Technology Center, third.

      Students from Grace King High School in Metairie were awarded first place in the service learning competition. St. Charles Parish Satellite Center won second place, and the Caddo Career and Technology Center and Franklinton High School tied for third place.

      Winners in the STAR poster competition were Nicole Matherne, St. Charles Parish Satellite Center, first; Lindsey Duhon, Rayne High School, second; and Jessica Smith, Grace King High School, third.

      St. Charles Parish Satellite Center students swept the speech competition with awards going to Zakitha Victorian, first; Amanda McCarter, second; and John Brown, third.

      Essay competition winners were Megan Boudreaux, St. Amant High School, first; Matthew Johnson, St. Charles Parish Satellite Center, second, and Haley Haggerty, Grace King High School, third.
