HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University is accepting applications for admission to the fall 2006 semester through its deadline of August 15, university officials said.

The university has received calls from individuals and parents with the mistaken assumption that Southeastern had reached its capacity and was putting students on waiting lists.

“Our on-campus housing is reaching its capacity. At some point additional students who want to live on campus may be placed on a waiting list for housing,” said President Randy Moffett. “However, there is no waiting list for admission to the university. We are still taking applications for admission and anyone who meets our required standards will have no problem enrolling. We want to encourage everyone to apply to the university.”

“Our advice to students considering Southeastern is to apply for admission to the university as well as for housing, as soon as possible if they want to live on campus,” Moffett said.

Southeastern is experiencing a near-30 percent increase in applications from new freshmen for the fall semester compared to this time last year. The university, now the third largest in the state, will conduct a final orientation for beginning and transfer freshmen August 14-15.
