Aristides Baraya, right, chairman of the Hispanic Business and Technology Resources Center in Kenner, on Monday (Dec. 4) presented U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-LA) a special award from the center for Vitter’s assistance in helping the organization get started this past year. Baraya, director of Southeastern Louisiana University’s Latin American Business Initiative, recognized the four main partners in the venture: the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Louisiana, Southeastern, Catholic Charities of New Orleans’ Hispanic Apostolate, and the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Also honored at the group’s recent luncheon was the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for contributing seed money for the center, an operation focused on addressing the business and educational needs of the Hispanic community in post-Katrina New Orleans.
