HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University Theatre has announced the cast of the Samuel Becket classic “Waiting for Godot,” scheduled for March 21-25 in Vonnie Borden Theatre.

“Waiting for Godot” features Teddy Boone of Covington as Vladimir; Ben Norman of Covington as Estragon; Whitney Allen of Hammond as Pozzo; Paul M. Woods of Covington as Lucky; and Randy Malbrough Jr. of Gonzales as the boy.

“Waiting for Godot” made its American debut on Broadway 50 years ago.  Since then, Beckett’s masterpiece has been hailed by critics around the globe as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.

Director James Winter of the Southeastern Department of Music and Dramatic Arts said Southeastern Theatre production will put a refreshing and innovative spin on Beckett’s hilarious and tragic look at two tramps and their exploration of faith, hope, friendship, and the human condition.

Winter said Southeastern composer-in-residence Stephen Suber is composing an original score for the production while Southeastern Theatre Director Steve Schepker will collaborate with Southeastern students from the Visual Arts Department on the scenic design.

“This will not be a usual interpretation of ‘Godot’,” said Winter.  “The cast members have been in physical workshops for three weeks in order to prepare for the intense physical nature of our production.”  Winter also hinted that “the audience will play a key role in the show.”

Curtain time for “Waiting for Godot” is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for senior citizens, non-Southeastern students, and Southeastern faculty and staff; and free for Southeastern students with a valid I.D. Tickets will be available one week prior to the show at the Southeastern Theatre box office in the lobby of D Vickers Hall, 985-549-2115.

For additional information contact the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts, 985-549-2184.
