Southeastern Gospel Music Ensemble presents “Tribute to Black History”

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Gospel Music Ensemble is presenting a musical “Tribute to Black History.”

       Greenfield Baptist Church in Hammond will host the free concert by the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts’ 28-member choir Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m., said choir Director Kenya Lawrence Jackson.

       Jackson said the ensemble’s 60-minute concert will feature traditional African-American hymns and spirituals, lyrical dance, and poetry by renowned African-American poets such as Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou.

       Choir member Pamela Williams of Bogalusa will be featured as a soloist and Leslie Palmer of Hammond and Arianne Antoine of New Orleans will perform the poetry readings. Lyrical dance will be presented by Donta Mills of Baton Rouge and Brittany Bickham of LaPlace.
