HAMMOND – More than 175 registrants have already signed up for a free program in Mandeville Tuesday (Feb. 21) designed to inform area businesses of the public and private sector’s purchasing needs and to connect them with contracting opportunities.

Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Castine Center in Pelican Park, the Northshore Contracting Workshop and Matchmaker Event is intended to provide insight and tools that local businesses can use to secure federal and state government contracts. The program is sponsored by Southeastern Louisiana University’s Small Business Development Center, Louisiana Economic Development and other north shore partners.

“What makes this program unique is the networking forum wherein we are bringing contractors in direct contact with potential subcontractors and governmental agencies,” said William Joubert, director of Southeastern’s SBDC and the Southeast Louisiana Business Center. “We see this event as helping to address some of the critical needs associated with recovery that businesses are facing.”

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Castine Center. Advance registration is preferred by contacting the Southeastern SBDC at 985-549-3162.

Participants in the workshop include, in addition to Southeastern and LED, the Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center, the Louisiana Office of State Purchasing, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Small Business Administration, and other government agencies.

More than 20 companies are also scheduled to participate as exhibitors, including Northrup Gruman, Stennis Space Center, the Shaw Group, Kellogg Brown & Root, Fluor, MWH Americas, Lockheed Martin and IAP Worldwide.
