HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Development Foundation has established a scholarship in honor of the late Wade Speed, a prominent Hammond businessman, civic leader and Southeastern graduate.

The scholarship is being established by individuals who participate in the annual Wade Speed Golf Tournament.

Speed was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church where he served as a member of the Vestry. He also was active in the Hammond Rotary Club, serving as president from 2003-2004.

“Wade received two degrees from Southeastern,” said President Randy Moffett. “The establishment of this scholarship is a great way to recognize his memory at Southeastern.”

The first recipient of the scholarship is Cody Bertone, a Southeastern management major and a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Hammond. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration at Southeastern.
