HAMMOND --  Southeastern Louisiana University has launched a re-designed and updated web site to provide easier navigation and more information about the university and its academic programs.

Approximately 800 new pages were launched this week in the first phase of a complete overhaul of the university’s web site, found at www.selu.edu.

The re-designed site has been under development for the past year and provides a fresh look for the university. Greater use of photographs and numerous short features on outstanding students, academic programs and faculty are employed throughout the web site.

"We know that the Web is a primary tool used by more than 80 percent of individuals to search for college information, so we wanted to develop a site that was attractive and provided easily accessible information for prospective students," said John Crain, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "College web sites today not only provide information, but also serve as an important marketing and recruitment tool that makes an immediate impression about the institution."

The site uses a state-of-the-art content management system to ensure that links work properly, dead pages are eliminated and information presented is visually appealing and current. The system allows the site to be updated more easily, providing a consistent look and feel as well as greater security.

Prospective students will find more in-depth information on Southeastern’s academic programs, the university’s admission standards, and scholarship offers. Included also are a college preparation checklist for beginning freshmen and special pages for high school counselors and parents.

Current students who use the site will find a re-designed page that incorporates all of the important information they need in one place, including information regarding registration, university calendar and courses, their accounts and finances, campus life, academic support services, and student services.

"The new site represents a significant improvement to one of the main portals to the university," Crain said. "It also represents many hundreds of hours of work or research and testing put in by a diverse team working together over the past year."

Over the next several months, additional pages will be redesigned, including those for academic departments that will highlight special features and the distinctive offerings of those departments. The re-design effort involves four phases and the entire site is expected to be updated by July.
