HAMMOND -- The Nu Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Southeastern Louisiana University’s oldest African-American sorority, is updating its list of members as it plans for its 30th anniversary.

Erin Wheeler of Amite, chapter communications secretary, said the sorority would like to include in anniversary celebrations all members initiated since the chapter’s founding in 1976.

Members of the Nu Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta are asked to submit their name, address, phone number, and year of initiation to nudeltaanniversary@yahoo.com or call 985-517-0329.

Founded at Southeastern on March 15, 1976, the Nu Delta Chapter is affiliated with the nation’s largest African-American sorority. Delta Sigma Theta dates back to 1913, when it was founded “on Christian principles, public service and sisterhood,” said Wheeler.

“Ever since its inception, members of Nu Delta have maintained academic excellence and outstanding community service records while participating in a variety of leadership roles throughout the campus,” Wheeler said.
