Blair Abene sings opera aria

HAMMOND – After two days of preliminary competition at the Miss Louisiana Pageant in Monroe – and with the big event still to come on Saturday -- Miss Southeastern Louisiana University Blair Abene is already a winner.

Abene, a junior vocal performance and mass communication major from Hammond, won the pageant’s talent preliminary Thursday night. Abene performed the opera aria “O Mio Babbino Caro.”

“Her talent performance was flawless and left the crowd in awe!,” said Campus Activities Board coordinator Jason Leader, who was among those who accompanied Abene and long time Miss Southeastern sponsor Jackie Dale Thomas, director of leadership development/student activities, to the pageant. Abene will receive a $1,000 cash prize for taking home the honor.

“Blair has done a great job representing Southeastern,” Leader said. “She has sparkled in all phases of competition.”

Abene was scheduled for the personal interview segment with pageant judges Friday morning. The Miss Louisiana Pageant finals will be broadcast on Saturday at 8 p.m. on WUPL in New Orleans and WBTR in Baton Rouge.
