Canfield to head national counseling organization

HAMMOND  -- Brian S. Canfield, professor of counseling at Southeastern Louisiana University, has been elected president-elect of the American Counseling Association. 

       He will serve a one-year term as president-elect beginning July 2006, with his term of office as president of the association beginning July 2007.

       With more than 48,000 members, the association is the primary national organization representing counselors and the counseling profession in the United States.

       A former head of the Department of Human Development in the College of Education and Human Development, Canfield has been a member of the Southeastern faculty since 2000. He previously served as president of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, the largest affiliate division of the American Counseling Association with 8,500 members worldwide.

       Canfield holds a doctorate from Texas A&M. He previously served on the counseling faculty at the University of Louisiana-Monroe and LSU-Shreveport.
