HAMMOND – State Sen. Julie Quinn’s appearance at Southeastern Louisiana University for Women’s History Month has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 29.

Quinn will speak at noon on the third floor of Sims Memorial Library as part of Women’s History Month’s lunchtime lecture series. Quinn was originally scheduled to speak on March 23.

Elected in July 2005, Quinn grew up on the north shore and graduated from Slidell High School, Louisiana State University and Loyola Law School. After graduation, she entered private practice specializing in business law and contracts.

In 2001, Quinn was elected to fill an unexpired term on the Jefferson Parish School Board. She was re-elected without opposition in 2002, and served until her election to the State Senate.

While on the school board, she was instrumental in creating the first magnet schools in the parish and implementing a drug testing program that serves as a national model. In the area of community services, she has volunteered her time as Court Appointed Special Advocate representing abused children in custody proceedings and has served on the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation board. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Methodist Home for abused and neglected children and on the Jefferson Dollars for Scholars Board of Directors. In 2005, she was named "Who’s Who Among American Women."
