(3) LIVINGSTON STUDENTS WIN GRAND PRIZES IN SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR – Springfield High School students Heather Lewis, left; Kayla Sanchez, right; and Kristen Tortorich (not pictured) won the grand prize in Division III of the annual Region VIII Social Studies Fair, hosted March 15 by Southeastern Louisiana University. Their winning project, “Depression: How Does It Effect Teens?”, qualified for the top prize by taking first place in the sociology category.

 

       HAMMOND ‑‑ Winners of the annual Region VIII Social Studies Fair, hosted March 15 by Southeastern Louisiana University, have been announced.

       Grand prize winners for individual and group projects were chosen in three divisions, Division I (grades 4‑6), Division II (grades 7‑8), and Division III (grades 9‑12). They will advance to the state Social Studies Fair at Louisiana State University.

DIVISION I

       INDIVIDUAL -- Grand Prize: Paul Mire, Northlake Christian Elementary School, “How Did Our Town Change?”; Runner-up: Lawrence Ingraffia, Holy Ghost School, “Italian Immigration.”

       GROUP: Grand Prize: Lauren Wenzel, Lindsay Edwards, Tchefuncte Middle School, “2 Places, 1 Problem”; Runner-up: Mara Milazzo and Bridget Zahn, “Holy Ghost School, “You Make the Call.”

DIVISION II

       INDIVIDUAL -- Grand Prize: Catherine Cardwell, Cedarwood School, “Les gens de Couleur Libres”; Runner-up: Harrison Richard, Cedarwood School, “Stealing the Superfortress.”
       GROUP -- Grand Prize: Mia Jackson and Kellie Wheat, St. Joseph School, “The Biltmore Estate”; Runner-up: Chelsea DeGray and Jasmine Whittington, Southeastern Lab School, “Women in Politics.”
