      HAMMOND – Christiana Loredana Iheadindu, a music major from Bucharest, was the recipient of the 2006 Dean's Award, the top honor of Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

      Iheadindu, a piano student with a 4.0 grade point average, was among the students recognized at the college’s annual honors convocation on April 28.

      The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences also joined its sister colleges at Southeastern in recognizing an outstanding alumnus. Steven Daigle, who received a bachelor’s degree in vocal education and performance in 1987, is head of the opera program at the Eastman School of Music, where he has served on the faculty since 1997. He is dramatic director of Eastman Opera Theatre and has served as part of the artistic staff for more than 300 lyric theater productions and production stage manager of more than 400 professional operatic performances.

      Daigle’s directing credits include productions for the Eastman School of Music, Mercury Opera of Rochester, the Lyric of Atlanta, Oberlin Conservatory, Louisiana State University, Florida State Opera, South Georgia Opera, Kent State Opera Workshop and the Columbia Theatre Players. Productions include collaborations with Pulitzer Prize winning composers, legendary Broadway composers, and America opera composers and conductors.

      As a singer he has performed major roles in productions such as “A Little Night Music,” “Hello Dolly,” “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Die Fledermaus,” and “Guys and Dolls.”

      Also at the honors convocation, the college presented departmental awards and scholarships to:

      BATON ROUGE – Christopher Darville, J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Scholarship; Jamie Alonzo, Distinction in Three Dimensional Art Award; Alisha Camus, Distinction in Two Dimensional Art Award

      BOURG – Megan Thren, Ralph R. Pottle Sr. Scholarship for Outstanding Freshman Music Major

      COVINGTON – Elizabeth Brown, Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award in Psychology

      DERIDDER – Michael Hall, Outstanding Major in English

      DESTREHAN – Jessica Clement, Distinction in Digital Design Award

      GREENWELL SPRINGS – Marie Barilleau, Outstanding Major in Liberal Arts Studies; Alisha Camus, Distinction in Two Dimensional Art Award
