      HAMMOND – Eric Norman of Grimstad, Norway, and Brittany Miranda of Prairieville received the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Business’s highest academic honors, the Award for Academic and Leadership Excellence and the Award for Professional Excellence and Ethics, respectively, at the college's annual honors convocation April 27.

      Norman, who also received awards of excellence from the Northshore Region Human Resources Association and the Society for Human Resources Management, and Miranda, who also received the First Guaranty Bank Assistantship Scholarhsip, were recognized along with student recipients of departmental awards and scholarships at the awards ceremony in the Student Union Theatre.       Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster, who received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southeastern, was recognized as the college’s Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. Foster had a long career in banking before being elected Hammond’s mayor. For three decades he worked in various capacities at Citizens National Bank, retiring as president and chief operating officer in 1997. He then served in leadership positions with Hancock Bank and Parish National Bank before being elected mayor of Hammond in 2003.

      An active volunteer both locally and statewide, Foster was named to the State Board of Commerce and Industry under two governors and was named as the first president of the board of Louisiana Special Olympics. With three generations of his family having attended Southeastern, he has chaired the Southeastern Development Foundation, served as treasurer of the Alumni Association, and is a member of the President’s Advisory Committee. He also has taught marketing and finance at Southeastern as an adjunct professor.

      In the community, Foster is a past president and lieutenant governor of Kiwanis International and served as chair of the Tangipahoa United Way, the Downtown Development District, the Fire and Police Civil Service Board, the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, and TARC of Hammond. He is an active member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church where he serves as a lay minister and on the Baton Rouge Diocesan Finance Council.

      The college also presented its College of Business Certificate of International Friendship to Leyla Jepbarova of Tuebingen, Germany; Ivana Jordanova of Munich, Germany;  Mario Krenn of Julbach, Austria; and Thomas LeLandais of  Nimes, France.
