(11) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS TANGIPAHOA SCHOOL SYSTEM – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders recognized the Speech-Language-Hearing Department of the Tangipahoa Parish School System with its Significant Partnership Award at the recent College of Nursing and Health Sciences honors convocation. (12) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS NORTH OAKS MEDICAL SYSTEM – Southeastern Louisiana Univesity’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies recognized the North Oaks Medical System Community Education Department with its Significant Partnership Award at the recent College of Nursing and Health Studies honors convocation. (13) SOUTHEASTERN ALUMNUS HONORED – Cyndy Foster, right, a member of the Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association Board of Directors, presents the university’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences Alumni of the Year award to Janet G. Mora of New Orleans at the recent honors convocation. Mora, a 1972 graduate of Southeastern, was recognized for her work in the area of autism.

 

(14) OUR LADY OF THE LAKE HONORED -- Ray Landreneau of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge accepts the Significant Partnership Award from Denise Hart of Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences recent honors convocation in Hammond. Landreneau accepted the award on behalf of the medical center’s Division of Surgical Services.

 

      HAMMOND – Jill Armstrong of Ponchatoula, Erica Robinson of Hammond and Kimberly Jones Stern of Holden each received the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ highest honor, the Dean’s Award, at the college’s annual honors convocation held April 25 in the Student Union Theatre.

      Armstrong received the award from the School of Nursing, Robinson from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorder, and Stern from the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Stern also received the Brian Wang Award as the outstanding senior in health and physical education teacher education.

      Janet G. Mora of New Orleans, a specialist in the field of autism, was named the Southeastern Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus for the college. Currently a consultant with the Louisiana State Department of Education in the area of autism, she is responsible for providing professional development and technical assistance on educational services for Louisiana students with autism. She earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education and speech correction from Southeastern in 1972 and later received a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Tulane University.

      Mora is the founding director of the Chartwell Center in New Orleans, a non-profit school for children with autism and sensory processing difficulties. “Janet’s knowledge and empathy for individuals and families of individuals with autism is well recognized and her advice and counsel is often sought and given willingly and freely,” said Cyndy Foster, a member of the Southeastern Alumni Association Board of Directors who made the presentation.

      Three area institutions were cited with the Significant Partnership Award in recognition of their contributions to the educational programs in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Tangipahoa Parish School System, with special recognition to the Speech-Language-Hearing Department, received the award from Southeastern’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; the North Oaks Health System’s Community Education Department was recognized by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies; the Hammond Council on Aging and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Division of Surgical Services, in Baton Rouge, received partnership awards from the School of Nursing.


      Other students honored included:

      ASCENSION – Courtney Hope of Prarieville, Outstanding Graduate Award in Exercise Science.

      BATON ROUGE – Samatha Adams, Charles W. Campbell Memorial Award; Kelsey McNitt Prather, Opal Carl Award in Nursing; Courtney Lee, Evelyn Davis Award in Nursing; and Ashley LoboGuerrero, Graduate Scholar Award in Health Studies.

      JEFFERSON – Arden Ballard of Harahan, Walter Russell Academic Achievement Award in Kinesiology and Health Studies; and Kimberly Hauer of Kenner, Outstanding Graduate Award in Health Education and Promotion.

      LAFAYETTE – Lacie Domingue of Carencro, Robert E. LaRue Scholarship.

ST. BERNARD – Tara Bordelon of Chalmette, Emma LaDew Memorial Fund Award; and Scott Giardina of Arabi, Outstanding Graduate Award in Athletic Training.

      ST. TAMMANY – Lauren Fitzmorris of Covington, Outstanding Graduate Scholar Award in Health Promotion and Exercise Science; Florence Hoffmann of Mandeville,  Leadership and Service Award in Nursing; Katie Kathleen Hunt of Folsom, the Fritz “Tootsie” Darouse Scholarship; Mitzie Meyers of Mandeville, Graduate Scholar Award in Nursing; Gregory Reeves of Mandeville, Graduate Scholar Award in Kinesiology; and Kacie Thompson of Mandeville, Outstanding Graduate in Health Promotion and Exercise Science.

      TANGIPAHOA – Ross Currier of Amite, Harvey A. Theriot Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

      Also recognized were honors program students, Phi Kappa Phi and Thirteen Club inductees for the 2004-2005 academic year.
