HAMMOND – Registration is underway for the upcoming "Livingston Musical Summer Sampler," sponsored by the Southeastern Louisiana University Community Music School.

Designed for Livingston Parish third, fourth and fifth graders, the special summer music program will take place June 5-7 at the Livingston Literacy and Technology Center in Walker. Sessions, conducted by CMS faculty and Southeastern music students, will be held from 3-7 p.m. daily. Registration for Summer Sampler is $60.

CMS Director Kenneth Boulton said the three-day musical mini-camp is a great way to shorten the gap of creativity between school years. He said Summer Sampler will introduce students to a variety of brass, woodwind and string instruments through performances and demonstrations by the instructors.

“Students will get to hear what the instruments sound like individually and together,” Boulton said. “They can also try the instruments out themselves.”

He said each session will end with an informal concert for parents and students. In addition, representatives from Zeagler's Music in Baton Rouge will be on hand to supply instruments and information for all participating students and parents.

Parents may register their children by calling the Southeastern Community Music School office at 985-549-5502.
