Southeastern presents Moxie Dance Project Oct. 23

MOXIE DANCE PROJECT -- Southeastern Louisiana University dance instructor Dana Brewer-Plazinic will direct the Moxie Dance Project on Ocotber 23 at Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Hammond.


     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Music and Dramatic Arts will present the Moxie Dance Project Oct. 23 in the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts as part of Fanfare.

     Directed by Southeastern dance instructor Dana Brewer-Plazinic, the Moxie Dance Project features guest artists from Baton Rouge’s “Of Moving Colors Dance Company,” a unique dance company that combines movement, visual arts, literature and music in its performances. The genre of works for the 7:30 p.m. concert is modern dance.

     Of Moving Colors will also hold two master classes. Classes are scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and 2-3:15 p.m. in the Kinesiology and Health Studies Building, room 153.  Intermediate level dancers age 16 and over are eligible to attend either class at a cost of $5 per student.

     Guest choreographers for the Oct. 23 concert include Garland Goodwin Wilson from Of Moving Colors and Christine Suarez of Suarez Dance Theatre. Both pieces will feature Southeastern dancers.

     Dancers for the evening’s performance include Southeastern students Zachary Bellavia of Amite; Samantha Givens, Jeoffery Harris Jr., Nicole Judson, and Diamond Williams of Baton Rouge; Bridget Lyons of Church Point; Megan Guillot of Covington; Daphne Lamendola and LaKahyia Moll of Gonzales; Jessica Edwards of Gretna; Emily Benfatti of Lacombe; Austyn-Marie Hollowell of Metairie; Tiffany White of Port Allen; Sharon Miller of Zachary; and Kaleigh Brandt of Slidell.

     Tickets are $4, general admission; $2, senior citizens, Southeastern faculty, staff and alumni, and non-Southeastern students; and free for Southeastern students with ID.
