(9) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (ORANGE, TEXAS) – Brittney Spooner of Orange, Texas, was among the students from Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Education and Human Development inducted April 30 into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi. To be considered for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, a student must be in the top 10 percent of the senior or graduate class or a second-semester junior in the top 7.5 percent of his/her class.
(10) SOUTHEASTERN PHI KAPPA PHI INITIATES (HOUSTON, TEXAS) – Southeastern Louisiana University graduate Marcia King Galatas was one of approximately 80 individuals, including 11 faculty, staff and alumni, inducted April 30 into the university’s chapter of the prestigious national honor society Phi Kappa Phi. To be considered for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, a student must be in the top 10 percent of the senior or graduate class or a second-semester junior in the top 7.5 percent of his/her class, while faculty and alumni are chosen for outstanding contributions to their fields.

At the chapter’s annual induction banquet April 30, Southeastern Phi Kappa Phi honored senior vocal performance major Jane Frances Rownd of Hammond , who is one of 40 national recipients of a $2,000 Award of Excellence for post-graduate study by the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
The honors organization also presented the Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship, established in 2006 in honor of the chapter’s 50th anniversary, to Estera Pirosca, a communication major from Romania.
The honors organization also recognized as Outstanding Juniors vocal performance major Cara Williams of Franklinton, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; business administration major Alexandra Elizabeth Mayer of Destrehan, College of Business; junior education major Amy Marie Pellittieri of Ponchatoula, College of Education and Human Development; general studies major Brenda Dunn Miller of Amite, Division of General Studies; nursing major Hannah R. Yantis of Zachary, College of Nursing and Health Sciences; and computer science major Scott Allen Grimes of Bogalusa, College of Science and Technology.
The Outstanding Freshman Award was presented to biological sciences major Michelle M. Hawkins of Mandeville, while psychology major Hannah Locke of Slidell received the Outstanding Honor Student award.
The initiates included Southeastern faculty and staff Stephen Soutullo, assistant vice present for enrollment management; Gerard Blanchard, head of the Department of Chemistry and Physics; Chris Bentley, general studies and athletics; and Susan Sawyer, teaching and learning.
Alumni inductees include Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster (’68); Social Security Administration claims representative Steven Smith (’06); Alumni Association President Pat Williams (’76, ’86), administrative coordinator of staff development for the Tangipahoa Parish School Board; Alumni Association Secretary Rita Bertolino (’78, ’96), Reading Recovery Teacher Leader in St. Charles Parish; Houston resident and teacher Marcia Galatas (’79); Stephen Parrill (’98, ’96), supervisor of middle school instruction for Livingston Parish; and former coach, teacher, and insurance agent Ronald “Spike” Spangler (’69).
