Southeastern's Division of Extended Studies offers variety of non-credit courses for spring

     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s non-credit spring class offerings have started through the Division of Extended Studies. Courses will be held at the division’s three locations: Hammond, Mandeville and Walker. 
     “Workforce and professional development will continue to be a focus for our division this spring,” said Joan Gunter, assistant vice president for extended studies. “Our division is prepared to provide training opportunitiesto meet regional workforce needs.”
     Technical drafting with AutoCAD, digital photography, oil painting, Spanish, and massage therapy are just some of the topics of non-credit courses being offered throughout the region.
     “Providing life-long learning opportunities continues to be Extended Studies number one goal,” said Tom Dawsey, coordinator of special project for the division of extended studies. “With the need for workforce and professional development increasing, Southeastern, through Extended Studies, continues to expand course offerings for this type of training.”

     Upcoming spring 2010 non-credit courses in Hammond include:
▪ Introduction to Massage Therapy, Wednesdays, Jan. 20 – March 17, 5 – 6 p.m., cost $65.   
▪ Technical Drafting with AutoCAD, Mondays, Jan. 25 – May 24, 6 – 9:30 p.m., cost $800.
▪ Introduction to Elementary Spanish, Wednesdays, Feb. 3 – March 10, 6 – 8 p.m., cost $100.
▪ Pain Free Selling for Nontraditional Salespeople, Thursday, Feb. 4, 6 – 9 p.m., cost $99. This seminar is for individuals who are not in a sales position but would like to understand or practice sales skills to enhance customer service skills or understand that success in business requires some sales knowledge.
▪ Beginning Guitar, Mondays, Feb. 22 – March 29, 7 – 8 p.m., cost $50.
▪ Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007, Tuesday, Feb. 23 and Thursday, Feb. 25, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., cost $160.
     “The St. Tammany Center gives Southeastern an excellent venue to offer non-credit courses to the residents of St. Tammany parish,” said Stella Helluin, director of the St. Tammany Center in Mandeville. “Over the past 12 months, we have focused on offering more workforce and professional development courses and the results have been phenomenal.”

▪ Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007, Monday, Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., cost $150.
▪ Notary Review, Thursdays, Feb. 9 – June 1, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m., cost $575.
▪ Pain Free Selling for Nontraditional Salespeople, Thursday, Feb. 4, 6 – 9 p.m., cost $99.

▪ Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007, Thursday, Feb. 25, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., cost $150.

▪ Beginning Drawing, Thursdays, Feb. 25 – April 1, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., cost $100.00
     “We’re pleased to offer a wide range of educational opportunities to our area,” said Brad Borland, assistant director of Southeastern’s Livingston Parish Literary and Technology Center in Walker. “Our non-credit courses provide diverse offerings in leisure and workforce and professional development.”

▪ Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007, Thursdays, Feb. 25 and March 4, 6 – 9 p.m., cost $160.
