HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Lion fan day event and traditional pep rally at downtown Hammond’s Hot August Night on Friday (August 19) will include the third annual Lionpawlooza.
The pep rally, which launches the start of the Lions 2011-12 athletic season, will start at 6:30 p.m. Coaches, cheerleaders, Lionettes, student-athletes and Southeastern’s Spirit of the Southland Band will lead the rally on the stage in front of La Caretta Restaurant.
Following the pep rally, the festivities will continue behind La Caretta. Southeastern will host a village of tables and tents, featuring pictures with Roomie, autograph signing by student-athletes, and the Southeastern Spirit Spin prize wheel that guarantees a prize to anyone who takes a turn.
Lionpawlooza will also showcase the Lion Athletic Association, the Southeastern Bookstore for all things Southeastern, and music and DJs from KSLU.
Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, in partnership with the Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center and Louisiana Public Broadcasting, will premiere the Dinosaur Train’s movie “Dinosaur Big City” as a part of the Hot August Night activities. The free showings are scheduled for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The theatre will also host a dinosaur exhibit, crafts, treats and a special appearance by Buddy the dinosaur, all in Columbia’s lobby from 5 to 9 p.m.
