HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University and the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation will host an informational seminar to introduce the STEP (State Trade and Export Promotion) Program to local businesses on Thursday, June 28.

The free program will be held at the Southeastern St. Tammany Center in Mandeville from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Southeastern SBDC said that through the STEP program, which is funded by Louisiana Economic Development and the US Small Business Administration, qualified businesses can be reimbursed up to $5,000 for expenses related to entering new markets.

"This program is a great way to fund a business' current exporting endeavors or jumpstart a business to begin exporting," she said. "This session will give an overview of the program, including qualified businesses, eligible expenses, upcoming trade missions, and more."

"Our goal is to increase the number of small business exporters," said Bill Joubert, director of LSBDC at Southeastern. "There is strong recognition and demand for Louisiana products abroad. It's important for our small businesses to take advantage of the opportunities presented in the global market place."

The event is free and open to all small businesses. To register for this event or for more information, visit or call 985-549-3831.
