Southeastern SBDC to host government contracting series

     HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University is hosting a free government contracting series in Hammond. The series consists of four separate workshops scheduled from August through November and features Deputy District Director of the Louisiana District Office of the US Small Business Administration Jo Ann Lawrence as guest speaker.
     Co-sponsored by the US Small Business Administration and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center, the workshops are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Southeast Louisiana Business Center, located at 1514 Martens Dr. and include the following:
     • “Access to Capital: Getting the Financing You Need” – Aug. 14. Topics include the types of loans available, developing a loan proposal, and what is important to a lender and credit management.
     • “Building Wealth through Government Contracting” – Sept. 11. Topics include how the government buys, small business goals, how to access and bid on contracts, submitting successful offers, certificates of capacity, building capacity through subcontracting and joint venture relationships.
     • “The System for Award Management Registration” – Oct. 8. Those who wish to do business with the Federal Government must have an active registration in SAM. The workshop will walk attendees through completion of the SAM registration process.
     • “Beneficial Certification and How You Can Benefit” – Nov. 13. The workshop will walk attendees through completion of certification applications and will include certifications for the following: HubZone, Women-Owned Small Business and Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business and Veteran-Owned Small Business, 8(a) Business Development Program, Louisiana Unified Certification Program/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, Minority Business Enterprise, Women Business Enterprise, and State and Local Disadvantaged Business Enterprise. A SAM registration must be active to complete any certifications.
     Individuals can elect to attend one, some, or all of the seminars in the series.
