Southeastern Computer Science Department to present Industry Connect Lecture

FINAL INDUSTRY CONNECT LECTURE SCHEDULED - Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Computer Science is hosting the final spring Industry Connect Distinguished Lecture April 20, at 4 p.m. Coby Pennington of First Guaranty Bank will present “Cybersecurity Built-in Not Bolted On” in room 2026 of the Computer Science and Technology Building.


     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Computer Science is hosting the last of the spring Industry Connect Distinguished Lectures April 20, at 4 p.m. Scheduled in the Envoc Innovation Lab, located in room 2026 in the Computer Science and Technology Building, the free lecture is titled “Cybersecurity Built-in Not Bolted On.” Coby Pennington of First Guaranty Bank will serve as guest speaker.
     Pennington is a highly accomplished cybersecurity professional with over two decades of experience in the information security industry. He began his career in 2000 and has held various roles, showcasing his versatility and expertise.
     Pennington’s background includes serving as a technical trainer and consultant for Fortune 500 companies and as a senior partner at a firm focused on defense and aerospace. He has extensive experience in security, including working as a security officer for diverse environments such as industrial control systems and classified networks. His expertise in the fintech sector is demonstrated by his tenure leading the security program for a leading fintech company.
     Currently, as the Chief Information Security Officer at First Guaranty Bank, Pennington is responsible for the bank’s information security program’s strategic vision, implementation, and management.
     Pennington has been dedicated to continuous professional development throughout his career, as evidenced by numerous industry certifications and successful outcomes. He has held up to nine concurrent GIAC certifications and maintains his CISSP credential, a testament to his commitment to staying current with the latest developments in the field. He has worked in many different areas of cybersecurity at different levels and disciplines, including defense, offense, incident response and forensics, and more.
