     HAMMOND – Three area students received Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences' highest honor, the Dean's Award, at the college's annual honors convocation held May 9 in the Student Union Theatre.
     The Dean's Award was presented to Amanda Hines of Mandeville by the Department of Health and Human Sciences; Brittany Pfantz of DeRidder by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and Amanda Bourgeois of Denham Springs by the School of Nursing. Hines, who is majoring in nutrition, was also recognized with the Pyburn Award for Outstanding Senior in Family and Consumer Sciences.
     The Significant Partnership Award was presented by each department in recognition of contributions to the educational programs in the college. Crystal Bennett, rehabilitation director with Belle Maison Nursing Home and Premier Rehab of Hammond, was recognized by the Department of Health and Human Sciences for providing internship opportunities for students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program. Albany Upper Elementary School, represented by principal Debbie Tate, was recognized by the Kinesiology and Health Studies Department. The School of Nursing honored Woman's Hospital for its clinical work with the university's student nurses.
     Also at the convocation, the Southeastern Alumni Association honored Rosalind Bello, director of health policy at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as the college's Alumnus of the Year. A 2001 graduate with a master's degree in health studies, Bello has been a prominent figure in public health administration and policy for the past 12 years. Prior to joining M.D. Anderson, she worked at Jackson State University on the African American Intervention Network on projects related to the HIV/AIDS program and with the Louisiana Public Health Institute, where she concentrated on the tobacco-free living program. In her current position, she works in M.D. Anderson's Comprehensive Cancer Control Program.

2) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES HEALTH AND HUMAN SCIENCES PARTNER – Crystal Bennet, rehabilitation director of Premier Rehab at Belle Maison Nursing Home in Hammond, was awarded the Significant Partnership Award from the Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Health and Human Sciences at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences honors convocation May 9. She was cited for her efforts to provide training opportunities for students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program.


3) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Ascension Parish) – James Ragland of Prairieville was recognized at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences' honors convocation May 9. Ragland received the School of Nursing Leadership and Service Award.

Among those honored were, from left, Tabitha McReynolds, Zachary, Outstanding Graduate in Athletic Training; Cody Rogillio, Central, Outstanding Graduate in Health and Physical Education; Camille Robinson, Baton Rouge, the Opal Carl Award in Nursing; and Hannah Blanchard, Central, the Emma LaDew Memorial Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders.


5) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Jefferson) – Michael Dupre of Kenner and Kristin Hammant of Metairie were among the top students recognized at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences' honors convocation May 9. Dupre was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate in Sport Management, while Hammant received the Evelyn Davis Memorial Award in Nursing.


6) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (St. Tammany) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Amanda Hines of Mandeville received the Dean's Award for the Department of Health and Human Sciences and the Pyburn Award for Outstanding Senior in Family and Consumer Sciences.


7)SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (St. Tammany two) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Tara Hallenborg Bremond of Mandeville was named the Outstanding Student in Social Work, and Edgar Barrilleaux of Slidell was named a recipient of a Title-IV-E Child Welfare Internship.


8) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Tangipahoa) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Among those honored were, from left, Heather Koepp of Amite, Graduate Scholar Award in Health Studies; Donald Ponzo of Hammond, Outstanding Graduate in Exercise Science; and Alyssa Glover of Ponchatoula, Outstanding Graduate in Fitness and Human Performance.


9) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Tangipahoa two) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Among those honored were Autumn Hasty of Hammond, who received the Maddox Award for the Outstanding Junior in Family and Consumer Sciences.


10) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Tangipahoa three) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Among those honored were Tara Kempton-Jerez of Ponchatoula, who received the Graduate Scholar Award in Nursing.

11) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Shorewood, Ill.) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Among those honored was Megan McMillian of Shorewood, Ill., who received the Charles W. Campbell Memorial Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders.


12) SOUTHEASTERN RECOGNIZES NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES GRADUATES (Petal, Miss.) -- The Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences recognized its top students at its honors convocation May 9. Among those honored was Ashlie Swindol West of Petal, Miss., who received the Graduate Scholar Award in Counselor Education.
