Celebrate National Library Week 2023

 

Celebrate National Library Week with “Readings at Sims” and the Annual Book Sale! 

"National Library Week is the perfect time to visit Sims Memorial Library. We want to celebrate not only our library team, who work tirelessly to provide services to our patrons, but we also want to celebrate the students, faculty, and staff who use Sims,” said Sims Library Director Dr. David Sesser. 

In honor of National Library Week, the Library will be serving cake in the first floor lobby on Monday, April 24. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to join us for a piece of cake starting at 1 pm. 

The Library’s annual book sale will be held in the first-floor lobby on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26 from 9 am to 6 pm, and Thursday, April 27 from 9 am to 2 pm. A wide variety of hardcover and paperback books, videos, and CDs will be available for purchase. Hardcover books, large paperbacks, and DVDs are $2.00, and regular paperbacks and CDs are $1.00. Transactions are cash and credit/debit card. As a special treat on Tuesday, the first 40 customers will receive a coupon for an autographed book on opening day. All remaining books will be sold for $3.00 a bag on Thursday. 

On Tuesday, April 25, the Library will celebrate “Readings at Sims Library” on the third floor of Sims Library. Participants will hear selections from original works by many talented writers in the community. Readings are led by librarian and local author Dayne Sherman and begin at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

On Thursday, April 27, the Library and Southeastern faculty will honor the late poet David Bottoms by giving readings of his work.This event will be held in the first-floor lobby by the Cate Museum Exhibit at 6:30 pm.
