The Blair Abene ‘10, Miss Southeastern 2006-2007, Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Blair’s parents, Joe and Gay Abene, in honor of
her being crowned Miss Southeastern 2006. In 2008, Blair went on to become Miss Louisiana.
The scholarship is for a student majoring in vocal performance.
The William B. Abernathy Endowed Scholarship in Industrial & Organizational Psychology
Dr. Abernathy was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Southeastern and Vice President
of Performance Systems at Aubrey Daniels, International. He published numerous articles
in academic and trade publications, was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Organizational
Behavior Management, a board member of The Cambridge Center, and recipient of the
International Association for Applied Behavior Analysis’ Outstanding Contributor Award.
His wife Conie established the scholarship in his memory for a student majoring in
industrial and organizational psychology.
Accounting Faculty Alumni Endowed Scholarship
In the late 1990s, faculty members in the accounting department and accounting alumni
established this scholarship to benefit generations of Southeastern students majoring
in accounting.
Melissa Claire and Cheryl Ann Acosta First Generation Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established by former biology faculty member Dr. Danny Acosta
‘64 in memory of his daughter Melissa Claire and his wife, Cheryl Ann ‘76. Dr. Acosta
had a desire to provide financial resources to encourage young women to pursue careers
in the medical field. The scholarship supports a first generation student pursuing
a degree in Nursing.
Justin Addison Memorial Research Fund
Jay ’78 and Ellen Addison created this scholarship in memory of their son Justin.
The purpose of the Fund is to provide resources in support of the Southeastern Biological
Sciences faculty and students in their environmental research and study of the Cherokee
Beach Teaching Forest.
African-American Alumni Chapter Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established in 2009 by the African American Alumni Chapter at
Southeastern, and it benefits an African American student who is enrolled full-time
and is of sophomore standing or higher.
Tom and Jane Akers Endowed Scholarship in Business
The scholarship was established in 2017 by Thomas Akers ‘69, ‘73, and his wife Jane
Vanderhider Akers ‘70. Tom was recognized as Southeastern Alumnus of the Year in 2018
for his professional, civic and philanthropic commitments and serves on the Southeastern
Foundation Board of Directors. Their scholarship benefits a student majoring in a
discipline in the College of Business.
The Margaret Waldrep Alford Memorial Scholarship in Foreign Languages
Ms. Alford was a Professor of Foreign Languages at Southeastern until 1952. She was
active with the United Methodist Church, AAUW, Women’s Medical Auxiliary, and Daughters
of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of First
Guaranty Bank. The family and friends of Ms. Alford established the scholarship in
her memory and it benefits a student majoring in a foreign language.
The Barbara & Melvin Allen Endowed Scholarship in General Studies
The scholarship was created by Dr. Barbara Allen ‘68, ‘80, a Dean of the Division
of General Studies, and her husband Dr. Melvin Allen. Together they created the scholarship
to provide financial aid to a student majoring in general studies who had a clear
idea of their chosen career path.
Mary C. Allen Scholarship in Nursing
Lieut. Mary Allen, U.S.N. received her nursing degree in her native London. She was
a U.S. citizen, and enlisted in the Navy Nursing Corps after completing an obstetrics
residency at Johns Hopkins. She served on the U.S.S. Solace during WWII and received
a Presidential citation for her participation in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa landings.
After marrying Lt. Cmdr. Greg Allen, she returned to civilian life and worked as Director
of Nursing at Lallie Kemp Hospital and also taught nurses’ aides at Florida Parishes
Vocational School. Her family endowed the scholarship in her memory to assist a nursing
student.
Preston B. Allison Endowed Scholarship in Educational Leadership
Kevin Allison established this scholarship to recognize his father, Dr. Preston B.
Allison who served as the Dean of the College of Education at Southeastern from 1963
to 1970. Dr. Allison’s legacy is perpetuated through the presentation of the Outstanding
Dissertation Award to a student in the Doctor of Education in Education Leadership
program and with this scholarship which benefits a student pursuing the Master degree
in Educational Leadership.
Althouse-Nesser K-Team Printing and Imaging Endowed Scholarship in Business
The scholarship was established by Judy Althouse Nesser, former owner of K-Team Printing
and Imaging in Hammond. An active member of the Hammond business community and a
civic leader, Judy established the scholarship to provide financial assistance to
a student majoring in business.
Amedisys Holdings LLC Scholarship in Nursing
The scholarship was established by Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Care in Baton
Rouge and it benefits a student majoring in a discipline in the College of Nursing.
Amedisys is a leading provider of healthcare in the home offering a solution for patients
across the country to age in place. From home health, to hospice to personal care,
Amedisiys team members provide quality, clinically distinctive care to patients.
Anatomix Physical Therapy Endowment for the Support of Athletic Training
Anatomix Physical Therapy provides outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation
services at its facilities in Hammond and Mandeville. The scholarship provides financial
assistance to a Kinesiology Major from Tangipahoa or St. Tammany parishes.
Ancient Order of Hibernians Endowed Scholarship
The local chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic fraternal
organization, established the scholarship for a student graduating from St. Thomas
Aquinas Catholic High School, St. Scholastica Academy, St. Paul’s Catholic School,
or Archbishop Hannan High School.
Angelo C. and Marguerite Antonelli Endowed Scholarship in Athletics (Football)
Angelo “Angie” Antonelli ’48 was a Southeastern Athletic Hall of Fame inductee recognized
for his achievements on the football field. After serving in WWII and earning his
Undergraduate and Masters degrees in Education, he became a coach and educator. The
scholarship supports a Southeastern football player.
Angelo C. and Marguerite Antonelli Endowed Scholarship in Education
Angelo “Angie” Antonelli ‘48 and his wife, Marguerite Hutchinson Antonelli ‘43, met
at Southeastern, and together established the scholarship to provide assistance to
a student in education.
Army ROTC Endowed Scholarship
An agreement between the United States Army Cadet Command and the Louisiana Army National
Guard allowed the return of the Army ROTC program to the Southeastern campus in the
Spring of 2016. The Southeastern Army ROTC Chapter established this scholarship to
benefit Army ROTC Cadet primaries, active Army guardsmen or children of Louisiana
residents serving in any branch of the military who were killed in action.
Asoodeh-SJT Scholarship in Technology
The scholarship was established by St. James Technologies LLC, Paul Morton, President,
in appreciation for expertise provided by Southeastern faculty member, Dr. Mike Asoodeh,
resulting in the success and advancement of the company. This endowment benefits a
student majoring in engineering and information technology, and was established following
a history of successful business relationships between Southeastern and SJT.
Association of Government Accountants Endowed Scholarship
This Association is for professionals that support government at all levels and work
in the areas of financial management, accounting, auditing, IT, budgeting, policy,
grants management, performance management and other business operations areas. This
scholarship was established by the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Association to provide
financial aid to a student majoring in accounting.
A T & T First Generation Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship, established by AT & T, provides financial support to a first generation
student. A portion of the funds for this scholarship were provided by the Louisiana
State Board of Regents.
Lisa Aucoin Endowed Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Sandra and Ronald Aucoin in memory of their daughter,
Lisa Aucoin 01, who was pursuing her Masters degree in biology at Southeastern. It
was their desire to provide support to students pursuing either an undergraduate or
graduate degree in biology.
