HAMMOND – KSLU 90.9 FM, Southeastern Louisiana University’s public radio station, has made a last minute decision to indefinitely postpone its attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

KSLU’s student music director Aaron Springer was set to begin a 125-hour-plus on-air marathon at 6:30 a.m. Monday to tackle Guinness’ “Longest Radio DJ Marathon” record. Late Friday, however, KSLU General Manager Todd Delaney decided to pull the plug.

“We simply were not able to get the people power together to do this,” Delaney explained. Guinness’ rules require that independent witnesses, as well as medical personnel, be present at all time on four-hour shifts.

“What with things such as vacation trips and summer jobs and other obligations taking up so much of people’s time, the volunteer pool wasn’t available,” he said. “We’re disappointed, but we hope to revisit the project sometime in the future.”
