HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association and the Hammond Chamber of Commerce will host a celebration Aug. 19 honoring the accomplishments of the current Miss Southeastern and three former Miss Southeasterns at the 2008 Miss Louisiana Pageant.

The public is invited to attend the open house in the Student Union ballroom from 2 to 4 p.m.

Blair Abene of Hammond, Miss Southeastern 2006, won the coveted title of Miss Louisiana at the state pageant in Monroe earlier this summer. Jennifer Soileau of Slidell, Miss Southeastern 2003, finished first runner-up with current Miss Southeastern Brandy Hotard of Port Allen rounding out the top three at second runner-up in her first appearance in the pageant. Kristen Hilliard of Covington, Miss Southeastern 2007, was a top 10 finalist.

“The open house is an opportunity for Southeastern and the community at large to congratulate the Southeastern Miss Louisiana finalists,” said Jason Leader, director of the Campus Activities Board, the sponsor of the Miss Southeastern Pageant. “We’re very proud of the way each of them represented Southeastern.”

The event will feature a special presentation at 2:30 p.m. by Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster and Southeastern Alumni Director Kathy Pittman. Guests will be treated to a “candy bar” and refreshments such as iced fleur de lis cookies.
