HAMMONDThe Southeastern Louisiana University Theatre has announced the cast for its spring production of “God,” a play by Woody Allen.

“God,” part of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts Encore! 2008 performing arts series, is scheduled Feb. 20-23, 7:30 p.m., at Vonnie Borden Theatre.

Director Chad Winters said the play “makes fun of the bigger questions such as ‘What is the meaning of life?’ and ‘If a tree falls in the middle of the forest does it make a noise?’”

“‘God’ is truly a fun night out at the theater,” Winters said. “It is absurdist Woody Allen humor at its best.”

Set in an empty Greek amphitheater, this mad play within a play switches back and forth between ancient Athens and modern Broadway, Winter added.  The basic premise is a farcical journey of a Greek actor and a writer in search of the perfect ending to their play, and the clock is ticking. The play is also highlighted by “cameo” appearances from Blanche DuBois and Groucho Marx.

Cast members are Shawn Curry, Luling, as actor, Diabetes and Phidipides; Jaren Mitchell, New Orleans, as writer and Hepatitis; Alicia Hanley, Baton Rouge, as Doris; Randy Malbrough, Gonzales, as Trichinosis and Master; Matthew Kozel, New Orleans, as Bursitis and Zeus; Trey Lagan, Ponchatoula, as Lorenzo Miller and Groucho Marx; and Victoria Stinton, Jackson, Miss., as Blanche DuBois and chorus member.

Additional cast members include Wade Kerr, French Settlement, Bob Fate and King; Courtney Cosale, Mandeville, Wendy Fate; Sarah Levesque, Gonzales, maid, prompter, Greek slave and delivery boy; Christopher Hall, Birmingham, Ala., doctor and Stanley Kowolski; Trevor Tomeny, Gonzales, guard; Zachary Bellavia, Amite, man in audience; Kaytlynn Eddleman, Walker, woman in audience; Robyn Linton, Ponchatoula, woman stab victim; Corry Brown, Gretna, another man in audience; and Mary-Kathryn Fletcher, Baton Rouge, another woman in audience.

Also, Jeannie Adams, Covington, Elizabeth Haik, Greenwell Springs, Aeriel Robinson, Hammond, Jenna Smith, LaPlace and Katie Zirkenbach, Metairie, were cast as chorus members.

Tickets -- $10, adults; $6, senior citizens, faculty, staff, alumni, and non-Southeastern students – will be available at the theater box office in D Vickers Hall. Southeastern students are admitted free with their university I.D.
