HAMMOND – Singers from the campus and community are invited to join Southeastern Louisiana University’s Northshore Chorale and the University Chorus, which will begin fall rehearsals on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The choirs, which combine their voices in exciting concerts each semester, will meet each Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Music Annex choir room (room 163), said Alissa Rowe, director of choral activity in Southeastern’s Department of Music and Dramatic Arts.

Choir auditions for any Southeastern student interested in performing with University Chorus (MUS 131), Women’s Chorale (MUS 137), or Concert Choir (MUS 135) will take place Monday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Music Annex choral room (room 165A).

“Students should bring one art song to sing from memory and the music, as an accompanist will be provided,” Rowe said. “The audition will also include sight-reading, pitch memory, and overall range and vocal quality.”

You do not have to audition for the Northshore Chorale,” said Rowe. “Just come to the first rehearsal. Everyone who loves to sing is welcome.”

With more than 100 singers representing many university majors and community professions, the ensembles perform major works with professional orchestras and soloists. Repertoire includes Mozart’s “Mass in C minor,” Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” Samuel Barber’s “Prayers of Kierkergaard,” Orff’s “Carmina Burana,” Schubert’s “Mass in G,” Vaughan Williams’ “Five Mystical Songs,” and Faure’s “Requiem.”
