(1) SOUTHEASTERN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HONORS DONNIE BOOTH -- Donnie Booth, center, dean of the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences, was named the college’s outstanding alumnus for 2009 at the recent honors convocation. (2) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS OUR LADY OF THE LAKE VOICE CENTER – The Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders honored the Voice Center of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with its Significant Partnership Award for its clinical work with Southeastern students. Schexnaildre, a speech-language pathologist at the Voice Center.

 

(3) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS ST. TAMMANY PARISH HOSPITAL – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies honored the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington with its Significant Partnership Award for its internship opportunities offered to students. Eddie Hebert, head of the department, presented the award at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences honors convocation to exercise physiologist Joan Meyer, center, and Jan Fox, program supervisor at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

 

(4) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS LALLIE KEMP MEDICAL CENTER  -- Southeatern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing honored the LSU Health Sciences Center’s Lallie Kemp Medical Center in Independence with its Significant Partnership Award at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences recent honors convocation. The award was presented by nursing instructor Lindsay Dominano, center, to LSUHSC’s Connie Liuzza, director of nursing, left, and Sherre Pack-Hookfin, administrator.

Tracy Dobson of Larose received the Graduate Scholar Award from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

(8) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS AREA STUDENT (St. Tammany Parish) – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences recently recognized outstanding students at the college’s honors convocation. Katie Boudreaux of Mandeville received the Charles W. Campbell Memorial Award for the outstanding junior in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

     HAMMONDFour area students received the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ highest honor, the Dean’s Award, at the college’s annual honors convocation held May 5 in the Student Union Theatre.

     Melissa Perrin of Ponchatoula and Shannon Wheeler of Walker were recognized by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Emily McMillan of Greenwell Springs by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and Melanie Cantore of Hammond by the School of Nursing.

     Several area institutions were cited with the Significant Partnership Award in recognition of their contributions to the educational programs in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Voice Center at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge was cited for its cooperative training programs by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies recognized the cardiac rehabilitation unit at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. Lallie Kemp Medical Center in Independence and Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge – both members of the LSU Health Sciences Center -- were recognized by the School of Nursing’s Hammond campus and Baton Rouge Center respectively.

     At the convocation, the Southeastern Alumni Association honored the college’s dean, Donnie Booth, with its 2009 Distinguished Alumnus Award for the college. Former association president Gary Sandifer praised Booth for her 26 years as a member of the nursing school faculty, including 10 years as dean, her service to the nursing profession and the recognition she has earned by other professional organizations. Booth is a 1969 graduate of the Southeastern School of Nursing and holds a master’s of public health degree in nursing from Tulane University and a doctorate in adult education from the University of Southern Mississippi.

     Students honored at the ceremony included:

     East Baton Rouge Parish – Emily McMillan, Greenwell  Springs, Dean’s Award in Kinesiology and Health Studies and Outstanding Graduate in Exercise Science Award; Carrie Cranfield, Central, the Max Clardy Speech Pathology Scholarship in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Emily Nevarez, Zachary, the Leadership and Service Award in Nursing; Hayden Bell of Baton Rouge, the Evelyn Davis Award in Nursing; James Whitener, Baton Rouge, the Outstanding Graduate in Fitness and Human Performance Award; and Wendy Lafreniere, Baton Rouge, the Graduate Scholar Award in Nursing.
