HAMMOND – The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University will host and celebrate its first Livestrong Day Wednesday, Oct. 7, in support of cancer awareness and the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF).
Hosted by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies Club, faculty, Student Athletic Training Association and the Sports Management Association, the celebration will feature a campus run/walk, performances by student organizations and a community-wide “Wearing Yellow” competition.
“We have all been affected by cancer, so we feel strongly about supporting this event,” said Jennifer Jeansonne, assistant professor of kinesiology and health studies.
Students, faculty, staff and the community are encouraged to wear yellow and participate in the campus run/walk starting at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Community children will participate in a half-mile run around the stadium track followed by a one-three mile adult run/walk around the Southeastern campus.
During this time, student organizations will demonstrate fun exercise habits by showcasing step performances, dance routines and jump roping skills.
“Gold and Green” t-shirts are also available for a $15 donation and Jeansonne encourages everyone to show support by wearing one to work, class and Livestrong Day events. Those who place an order before Sept. 18 will be guaranteed a shirt; proceeds will be donated to the LAF for program support.
Campus departments, organizations and local businesses interested in participating in the “Wearing Yellow” competition, run/walk, t-shirt donation or performance showcase should contact Jeansonne at jjeansonne@selu.edu or call 985-549-3873.
