Southeastern Chamber Orchestra to present "Night of Concertos"

     HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Chamber Orchestra will present “A Night of Concertos” in its spring concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20.
     The concert, to be held in Southeastern’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Hammond, will feature the music of Antonio Vivaldi and Ludwig van Beethoven, said Director Yakov Voldman.
     Two Southeastern students who will graduate this spring – Iya Tsyrkot of Chernovtsy, Ukraine, and Anton Smirnov of Kherson, Ukraine – will each perform solos from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” in the concert. Both violinists, Tsyrkot will play Concerto No. 3 in F Major (“Autumn”), and Smirnov will perform the Concerto No. 1 in E Major (“Spring”) as well as the first movement from Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major.
     Other soloists in “The Four Seasons” include Iuliia Alyeksyeyeva of Kherson, Ukraine, on the violin performing the Concerto No. 2 in G Minor (“Summer”); and graduate student Simona Gronic of Kishinev, Republic of Moldova, on the violin playing Concerto No. 4 in F Minor (“Winter”). Rounding out the program will be Dragos Filip of Bucuresti, Romania, playing the cello in Vivaldi’s Concerto in G Major, PV 120; and pianist Liliia Oliinyk of Khereson, Ukraine, performing first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 5 in E Flat Major (“Empereor”).
     Tickets are available for open seating through the Columbia Theatre box office, 220 East Thomas Street, which is open 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and one hour before the performance. General admission tickets are $10, adults; $5, senior citizens, Southeastern alumni, faculty and staff. Southeastern students are admitted free with student identification.
