     HAMMOND – Three area students received Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ highest honor, the Dean’s Award, at the college’s annual honors convocation held May 2 in the Student Union Theatre.
     The Dean’s Award was presented to Stephanie Mcnemar of Denham Springs by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Elizabeth Prosperie of Houma by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and Hope Murchison of Alexandria by the School of Nursing. 
     Several area institutions and individuals were cited with the Significant Partnership Award in recognition of their contributions to the educational programs in the college. The Speech Therapy Department of SAGE Rehabilitation Hospital in Baton Rouge was recognized by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders for serving as a training site for student clinicians. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies recognized Andrew Bechac of the Southeastern Athletics Department for his work with athletic training students. The School of Nursing – Hammond Campus recognized the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Baton Rouge Campus honored Generations Behavioral Health in Baton Rouge.
     Also at the convocation, the Southeastern Alumni Association honored Kenneth Jenkins of Baton Rouge as the school’s Alumnus of the Year. Jenkins received an undergraduate degree in Health, Safety and Physical Education in 1966 and a master’s in educational administration in 1969. He currently serves as the director of student activities in art, music and athletics for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. He has been recognized with numerous honors throughout his career, including being named the Louisiana Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 1985 and the Outstanding Athletic Director in the state in 2001.
     Other students honored at the ceremony included:
     Ascension Parish: Katie Lemoine of Prairieville, the Outstanding Graduate in Health Education and Promotion Award.
     East Baton Rouge Parish: Kayla Bonvillain of Baton Rouge, the Opal Carl Award in Nursing; Glenn Landry of Baton Rouge, the Graduate Scholar Award in Nursing.
     East Feliciana Parish: Meredith Scroggs Cooper of Ethel, the Evelyn Davis Award in Nursing.
     Jefferson Parish: Clarissa Farrow of Marrero, the Outstanding Graduate in Sports Management Award.
     Livingston Parish: Christie Hutchinson of Denham Springs, the Outstanding Graduate in Exercise Science Award; Shannon Wheeler of Walker, the Graduate Scholar Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
     St. Bernard Parish: Amanda Palazola of Arabi, the Outstanding Graduate in Athletic Training Award.
     St. Charles Parish: Jason Schexnayder of Hahnville, the Outstanding Graduate in Fitness and Human Performance Award.
     St. Tammany Parish: Alexandra Esposito of Slidell, the Emma LaDew Memorial Fund Award for the outstanding senior clinician in communication sciences and disorders; Scott Gaines of Slidell, the Brian Wang Award for the Outstanding Senior in Health and Physical Education; Sloane Ory of Madisonville, the Outstanding Graduate in Health Studies Award.
     Tangipahoa Parish: Mark Gaudet of Ponchatoula, the School of Nursing Leadership and Service Award; Brielle Kluka of Ponchatoula, the Graduate Scholar Award in Kinesiology and Health Studies; Jenny Ricks of Hammond, the Graduate Scholar Award in Health Studies; Angela Threeton of Hammond, the Charles W. Campbell Memorial Award for the Outstanding Junior in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Congratulating him is Eddie Hebert, head of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies.


5) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS AREA STUDENTS (St. Tammany Parish) – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences recently recognized outstanding students from St. Tammany Parish at the college’s honors convocation. Recognized were Alexandra Esposito and Scott Gaines, both of Slidell.

7) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS TANGIPAHOA SHERIFF’S OFFICE WITH SIGNIFICANT PARTNERSHIP AWARD – The Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing – Hammond Campus honored Sheriff Daniel Edwards and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office with its Significant Partnership Award in recognition of the office’s work with nursing students on a variety of health and safety programs. Accepting the award is, center, Public Information Officer Dawn Panepinto. Presenting the award are School of Nursing faculty Terry Compton, left, and Susan Pryor.


8) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS BECHAC WITH SIGNIFICANT PARTNERSHIP AWARD -- Andrew Bechac of Hammond, right, senior associate athletic director for internal operations at Southeastern, was honored by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies with its Significant Partnership Award in recognition of his work with student athletic trainers. 9) SOUTHEASTERN HONORS NORTH SAGE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL WITH SIGNIFICANT PARTNERSHIP AWARD – The Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders honored the Speech Therapy Department of SAGE Rehabilitation Hospital in Baton Rouge with its Significant Partnership Award.
