Southeastern Nursing, Health Sciences to host Canines and Cupcakes before Hammond Mardi Gras parade

     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences is hosting its annual fundraising event, Canines & Cupcakes. Scheduled Feb. 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and prior to Hammond’s Mardi Gras parade, the event targets education and fun sessions for the entire family, including well-behaved pets. Check in begins at 4:45 p.m.
     Vice President for Student Affairs Eric Summers will serve as Grand Marshal of the event taking place in Southeastern’s Student Union Mall/Breezeway. Reserved, barricaded frontage along North Oak Street will also be available for participants who wish to stay for the Krewe of Omega Parade estimated to arrive at the location around 7 p.m.
     Canines and Cupcakes activities include a pet parade through Friendship Circle, silent auction, paw print station, cupcake decorating station, the Cajun Trinity food truck and more. General admission is free thanks to the vendors and sponsors who participated at Leader of the Pack and Pick of the Litter levels.
     Registration is $10 to participate in the costume contests, which start at 5:30 p.m. and include Best Mardi Gras Costume (canine), Best of Krewe Dynamic Duo (human and canine), Best Float/Wagon (human and canine), and Best Dog Parent Costume (human only). This year, a necklace from Ibert Jewelry is included in the $5 raffle.
     All donations benefit Southeastern’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences Foundation to promote student educational activities.
