Two Events, a Century in the Making
As we celebrate our centennial, we honor the achievements of the past while looking forward to the next century of growth inspired by Sims’ original dream.

In 1925, Linus Sims opened the doors of two classrooms at Hammond High School, creating a new higher education experience for southeast Louisiana.
A century later, Sims’ dream has flourished into Southeastern Louisiana University, an established four-year institution that continues to thrive and grow 100 years after its founding.
On September 16, 2025, Southeastern will celebrate its official 100th birthday, and we want all of our Pride to be part of the milestone that began with Sims’ vision a century ago.
The Student Union Breezeway will be alive with green and gold as Southeastern President William S. Wainwright and Student Government Association President Maria Nechaeva officially kick off the celebration for Lions past and present.
Join our students between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for community, tradition, and celebration. Students will enjoy custom Lion Mural T-shirts, a slice of Centennial Cake, and commemorative Coca-Cola bottles. Beloved artist Becky Fos, who created the vibrant mural displayed on the Student Union, will also be on hand to sign exclusive copies of her centennial painting.
Place your paw on history by wearing green, feeling golden, and joining us for a once-in-a-century celebration.
The excitement continues on September 17, 2025, with the 10th anniversary of Giving Day, a 24-hour campaign that unites supporters of Southeastern to provide essential funding for programs across the university.
From its beginnings as Hammond Junior College, created to expand higher education opportunities for the Northshore and beyond, Southeastern has become a beacon of excellence, community, and progress. As we celebrate our centennial, we honor the achievements of the past while looking forward to the next century of growth inspired by Sims’s original dream.
